Modern British Food

`Just reading this book will give you the munchies`   Nicholas Lezard, The Guardian.

 

This was my first book and still remains a favourite.  I still use many of the recipes I wrote for it, including lemon pancakes, hot cross buns and honey chilli chicken in lettuce leaves.  I encompassed all aspects of modern British cooking and filled its pages with easy, everyday recipes, quirky historical facts and amusing literary quotes.  Neil Packer illustrated it with whimsical drawings. The recipes are arranged month by month to reflect seasonal ingredients and culinary preferences. In April, for example, there are, among other things, sections on wild spring food; lobster, crab and dab; Easter baking; and chocolate.
